Nijmegen Housing Coalition

The housing shortage in the Netherlands has been structurally increasing for years. Right now, we are in the largest housing crisis since the Second World War. In Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Arnhem, Den Haag and Nijmegen itself have already seen housing protests last year. In Nijmegen there is a shortage of more than 5000 accomodations, putting us in the top 3 cities in the Netherlands with regard to the housing shortage. Prices are shooting through the roof. Starters are outbid by investors. Students pay themselves into oblivion for rooms, if they can find one to begin with. International students do not stand a chance. The number of homeless people has doubled.
